Summary
Once upon a time, in the deep mountains of Tohoku, there lived a bandit leader and his subordinates. The leader had a bold personality and one day told his men, "We're going to the capital to see the sights. Make sure to guard our home well." He set off for the capital with five of his men, behaving lavishly and astonishing the townsfolk.
One day, the leader met a beautiful girl. "What a beautiful person she is! How wonderful it would be if I could be with her... but I am a bandit." As he pondered this, he sought advice from his subordinates, who urged him, "Go for it!" Encouraged by their words, he made his way to the girl's house.
They approached the girl's father, saying, "We are emissaries from a wealthy man of Oshu. We would like to take your daughter." The father was surprised but said, "I would like to meet my daughter first before making a decision," and their conversation progressed. A few days later, the daughter was set to marry and departed for Sendai. However, she was shocked when she arrived at the bandit's house.
"I want to escape..." she thought, yet she was soon captured by the subordinates, but gradually she became accustomed to life in the mountains. Her husband was kind, and the subordinates treated her with care, calling her "Madam."
As time passed, happy days came, and the daughter gave birth to two children. However, her husband died suddenly, and the subordinates took away their possessions. The troubled daughter said to her mother, "Mom, we will work!"
The sisters resolved to rob goods from merchants and put their plan into action. "If you value your life, leave your goods and run!" they threatened, and successfully carried it out. However, bad thoughts began to sprout in their hearts. "If I take more..." they thought.
At that moment, they saw someone being cremated and realized the fleeting nature of life. "So this is what happens when people die... what a terrifying thought it is to kill," the younger sister cried. "I felt the same way. Let's change our hearts and live together in peace," the elder sister said.
The two revealed everything to their mother and cried in each other's arms. "Let's shave our heads and become nuns." Afterward, they visited a temple, confessed their sins, and began a life serving Buddha. Thus, the mother and daughters began a new life.
