Summary
The story begins with a poor family living in a village who owns a pig. This pig is the smartest in the village and always helps the family when they are in trouble. However, one day a new merchant comes to the village and starts to move the villagers' hearts by selling various items. The merchant proclaims that he will create metal pigs using a peculiar machine he brought with him.
The villagers believe that acquiring these metal pigs will lead to a prosperous life and start buying them one after another. However, what initially seemed like an attractive metal pig turned out to be completely useless. The merchant quickly leaves the village, and the villagers regret giving up their precious resources. The family reflects on their impoverished past and begins to reconsider what true wealth really is.
In the end, all they obtained were items of no real value, and they realized how important the pig they had cherished was. They come to understand that in order to find genuine happiness, it is not about pursuing material wealth, but rather that the true treasures lie in the important beings around them and in their daily lives.
Lesson
The lesson of this story is that the pursuit of material wealth does not necessarily lead to happiness. True value is found in the people and things close to us, and cherishing these is the key to building a rich life.
