Summary
The story is set in a distant future England. Casey, Tommy, and Ruth grow up at a boarding school called 'Hailsham.' While it appears to be an ordinary boarding school, it gradually becomes clear that they are being raised for a special purpose. At Hailsham, arts and creativity are emphasized, and students receive special education in health management and ethics.
Casey is the narrator, reflecting on her life at Hailsham and her relationships with friends. She, Tommy, and Ruth are very close, supporting each other as they grow. However, their peaceful daily lives are disrupted as the truth emerges that they have specific roles as 'donors.'
