Summary

Characters

An old man named Marutaro lives in a small village. He leads a relaxed life, cultivating vegetables in his garden every day. However, as he ages, his body has gradually become weaker.

Starting Point

Marutaro felt the limits of his physical strength. In fact, he had a son named Kazuhiro, but he was busy with work in the city and hardly ever came home. One evening, Marutaro thought to himself, "Indeed, having children is what one should cherish." Shortly thereafter, he made a decision: "I will call my son!"

Execution of the Plan

The next morning, Marutaro wrote a letter to his son. "I've been feeling a bit down lately, so I hope you can come visit. I would also like your help with the farming." A few days later, the letter arrived. Kazuhiro managed to come back in between his work commitments. However, he was so accustomed to relying on convenient tools that he was surprised to see Marutaro's old farming equipment. "You still use this?" he laughed, but he ended up helping a little.

Amusing Conclusion

The two of them started working together in the fields. However, Kazuhiro quickly approached the tools with a light-hearted attitude and made quite a mess, with dirt flying everywhere. The old man laughed and shouted, "That's what makes us a family!" Laughter echoed throughout the village that day. By the time Kazuhiro left, Marutaro's garden had become much livelier than imagined, and the bond between father and son deepened even further. Marutaro savored the happy moment, realizing that "having children is indeed what one should cherish."
