If only I were alive, how good things could have been, but once you die, there’s nothing that can be done. It is the dead who suffer the most loss.

Summary

A Story of a Village

Once upon a time, there was a wealthy merchant named Takeshi living in a small village. He was the most profitable trader in the village. However, Takeshi became so engrossed in making money that he completely ignored the plight of the poor villagers. The villagers always envied his business success, but he was completely unaware of their feelings.

One day, Takeshi fell seriously ill. He spent a fortune on treatment, but ultimately, he was unable to save his life. At that moment, all of his treasures and belongings were inherited, unintentionally falling into the hands of the villagers. It was only through Takeshi's death that the villagers were able to gain access to his wealth for the first time.

As Takeshi's funeral was held, something changed among the villagers. They began to develop a sense of camaraderie and started to raise funds for disaster preparedness training and health management. The wealth that Takeshi had accumulated was now being used for the good of the entire village and became a means to improve their lives. Seeing this, Takeshi was able to understand the true meaning of the proverb "The dead leave the poor behind."

As a new life began for the villagers, they also moved towards solving worsening environmental and poverty issues. Takeshi's legacy was etched in the hearts of the villagers, and through his existence, they learned anew "how important it is to be alive." In the end, Takeshi became a truly helpful presence only after his death, and his lessons were passed down within the village.
