Summary
Once upon a time, there was a farmer who had a special hen. This hen had the astonishing ability to lay golden eggs every day. The farmer sold these eggs at the market and became very wealthy. He heartily thanked his luck, took great care of the hen, and spent his income modestly.
However, over time, the farmer's desires began to swell. He thought, "If this hen lays golden eggs every day, there must be gold inside her as well. I should get all the gold at once!" Believing this, the farmer decided to kill the hen and secretly check inside her.
But when the farmer killed the hen, he gained nothing. There was no gold inside her, and worse, he lost the golden eggs he had been obtaining daily. The farmer regretted the consequences of his greed and understood that it was irreversible. From then on, he could never be as wealthy as before and led a lonely life.
Moral
The lesson from this fable is that "excessive desire leads to loss." The farmer was not satisfied with just one golden egg and continued to seek more, ultimately losing what was most valuable. It teaches us that sometimes it is important to be content with the present and to express gratitude.
